Sent off at odds of 16-1, Tikkanen trailed the field in the first half-mile past the clubhouse turn as Paradise Creek and Vaudeville began to sizzle on the front end. Still nine lengths out after a mile, Tikkanen accelerated around the turn and down the stretch to win by 11/2 lengths under Mike Smith. Owned by George Strawbridge’s Augustin Stable and trained by Jonathan Pease, Tikkanen’s 1994 campaign went through France, Ireland, Germany, Italy and the United States.
