When War Chant mounted a thrilling rally to capture the 2000 edition of the Mile, it became the second time in Breeders’ Cup history that a Distaff Champion produced a Breeders’ Cup winner. Personal Ensign did it first with 1995 Juvenile Fillies winner My Flag, and Hollywood Wildcat, victor of the ’93 Distaff, is the dam of War Chant. For Irving and Marjorie Cowan, it was all the more rewarding because Hollywood Wildcat and War Chant are both homebreds. Trainer Neil Drysdale put the tack on War Chant for his sixth Breeders’ Cup winner; Gary Stevens ens rode to victory for the eighth time. |
