With the late scratch of an injured Sky Mesa and a poor break by Hold That Tiger, the race was pretty close to a stroll in the park for Vindication, who opened up and maintained a clear advantage through the length of the stretch. Bob Baffert trained Vindication, a striking son of Seattle Slew, for Satish Sanan’s Padua Stables, and also had two other runners, Kafwain and Bull Market, who finished second and fourth, respectively. Hold That Tiger rallied belatedly to get up for third. Vindication was an overwhelming choice for outstanding 2-Year-Old Male of 2002.
