This time, the horse that carried his blue and yellow silks, Street Sense, made the winning margin a resounding 10 lengths, the largest in Juvenile history, second-largest in Breeders’ Cup history. Both Street Sense and wagering favorite Circular Quay brought up the rear of the pack in the early stages, and both made powerful moves around the turn. Street Sense skimmed the rail while Circular Quay had to go around horses and was unable to close the gap. It was the first Breeders’ Cup win for Tafel, who also bred Street Sense, and the second for trainer Carl Nafzger, who saddled Unbridled to victory in the 1990 Classic. Street Sense won the Eclipse Award for outstanding 2-Year-Old Male.
